Troubleshooting Joomla Modules/Components Installation on Godaddy Windows Shared Hosting

Today I spent almost 4 hours on troubleshooting Joomla Modules/Components Installation on Godaddy Windows Hosting. Their support is of little help as they take at least 6 hours to respond. I was trying to install a few joomla components and modules on my shared hosting. The problems were:

1. configuration.php was not writable – I made it writable using their file manager

2. Modules and Components were refusing to install. The issue was in incorrect log file and tmp file location in configuration.php – I changed it to the correct path. Basically you need to point log directory to Absolute Hosting Path available in your godaddy hosting account. It looks like this: D:\Hosting\some numerics\html. Change your log directory to D:\Hosting\some numerics\html\logs and your tmp directory to D:\Hosting\some numerics\html\tmp

3. Modules and Components directory were not writable – I made writable using file manager

Once the above changes were made, everything went smooth.

If are facing the same issues, follow the above steps. Make sure that you make modules and components directory unwritable after installing them.
